DUSK TILL DAWN - ©2010 Sigus Records
Chicago based singer/songwriter Kevin Lee is back with new 6-track Ep. Back in his early days he released a album on MCA with The Lonesome City Kings and worked with fame-producer Frank Filliped (Kiss, Foreigner). Dusk Till Dawn is the 4th album and he continues to deliver nice melodic rock/pop with a touch of Midwestern rock in a modern way. Kevin knows how to bring out some cool melodies and riffs and he sings very good and I have said that before but he gives the songs an extra push. The sound makes me think of bands like Beggars & Thieves, Cheap Trick and The Rembrandts. First up is the nice The Other Side that's a great pop-rocker with a touch of The Rembrandts for sure. I Still Believe has some Nelson sounding harmonies with a more laid-back feel over the songs, the melodies lifts up this song. Invisible is a strong ballad that has radio written over it and the chorus is pure pop orgasm. The Rick Springfield sounding rocker Slip Away is a nice catchy powerful song. Kevin has produced the album together with Rick Barnes (The Smashing Pumpkins) and they have come up with a fine result. Yes, this album is filled with nice hooks, chunky guitars and of course wonderful melodies. This is a good powerful rock/pop EP with 6 classy songs.

Chicago music veteran Kevin Lee has shared the stage with Pearl Jam, Matthew Sweet, Cheap Trick and a tour with REO Speedwagon. With the addition of Todd Jones (Guitar), Dann Morr (Bass), Erik Strommer (Drums) and Peter Spero (Keyboards) the music is very slick and production is clean on the opener "Next Big Thing" and the arena sound is big on "The Other Side" but the band pulls out the stops on "Slip Away" where the guitars churn out chunky riffs galore. Lee's vocals shine on the power ballad "Invisible." This was my favorite on the EP with a great hook and inspirational melody.

Some of you may remember Lee from his 2006 solo effort Flip the Switch, and for those who don't, Lee is a classic rocker/power popper in the Cheap Trick mold and the new EP with his backing band gets us off to a nice 2010 start. Opener "The Other Side" takes no prisoners with its driving rock style and big hooks, "Next Best Thing" rocks with attitude, and the power ballad par excellence "Invisible" would launch a thousand cigarette lighters. Rock on!

FLIP THE SWITCH - © 2006 Sigus Records
Singer/guitarist Kevin Lee is still performing at full power on the aptly titled Flip The Switch. An experienced power pop composer, he packs each of these 10 songs with hooks, and he has the pipes to put them across. Former Thrift Store Halo guitarist Brent Seatter helps fuel the energetic tracks like "Built To Burn" and "She's On Fire." "Won't Shed A Tear," one of Lee's better slow tunes, recalls Electric Light Orchestra. (www.kevinleeonline.com)

LOADED - © 2002 Big Blast Records
Are there anybody out there that remembers Kevin Lee and the Lonesome City Kings that released a album called "Restless" in the early 90's. Well now Kevin's is back with a brand new solo album that is filled with great high-quality melodic midwestern pop/rock with touches of AOR of in the veins of Cheap Trick, Matchbox Twenty and Nelson. The album opens up with a fantastic rocker ala Cheap Trick called "Where Do We Go From Here", this song has great guitar riffs mixed with brilliant hooklines and melodies that hits you right away. This song gives you a hint what this album is all about. The mid-tempo song "Find A Way" with some Beatles influences mixed with Nelson and sounds great, it has almost a balladish fell over it. One of the highlights on the album is the romantic ballad "Right Here With Me", this is a wonderful song with superb vocals. This is a modern AOR ballad with class. The straight-ahead rocker "Down" is pure melodic rock heaven. This songs has it all, monster hooks, catchy chorus and guitars that won't keep you sit still. The word is AWESOME. "Without You" is a great acoustic ballad in the best Nelson style. "Shameless" is a heavier pop/rock tune in the same vein as "Down", the chorus is a winner. This is a great modern rock song that should please any fan of the modern rock field. This is a album filled with crunching guitars, catchy hooklines, superb vocals from Mr. Lee and last but not least the melodies are all over this album. If you into the modern pop/rock world then "Loaded" is a album you should check out right away. Many of the songs has radio written all over them.
